Membership

EAPN membership is drawn from local charitable trusts, community, corporate and private foundations, grant makers, and non-grant makers passionate about philanthropy.

Membership Benefits

1. CONNECT – Numerous opportunities to connect with colleagues within an active and diverse network of philanthropy professionals. Some of our networking events include:
a. Annual Conference: EAPN’s signature event, the annual conference connects over 200 trusts, foundations, CSOs and guests from across the region and internationally to hear expert speakers, share strategies, network and have fun.
b. Constituency Events: Throughout the year through the National Philanthropy Forums hosts constituency-based meetings. These meetings can be peer based, sector based, program based or need based. The forums provide a rare chance to dig deep with colleague son issues affecting your philanthropic efforts.
c. Membership Day: This presents an opportunity to explicitly network with members, potential members, partners, the Board and the Secretariat.
d. Advertise your events and news with peers worldwide, through the EAPN website, newsletter and social media properties.

2. ADVANCE - Platform for building synergies and cohesion among development actors (government, CSOs, private sector) for greater coordination and system orientation. As a member of EAPN you have the opportunity to be part of various roundtables with a variety of stakeholders and lobby for favorable legal and regulatory frameworks to advance philanthropy in the region.

3. CAPACITY BUILDING – Access to various leadership and professional development courses such as master classes and peer learning forums and a wide array of research and survey publications.  

4. CREDIT

b. Discounted Rates for Exhibition space in the EAPN Annual Conference
c. Use of EAPN logo, which identifies you as a member of the only East Africa Philanthropy support network

Membership Criteria

1. Member organizations have full autonomy in their grant making activities and a track record   in leveraging resources.
2. Member organizations agree to abide by the Association’s Code of Ethics.
3. Member organizations have been active grant makers or have been active in the field of social development for at least one year.
4. Member organizations make grants through an open and transparent process to at least five organizations/individual search year.
5. Member organizations have a working presence in any of the East African countries (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda).
6. A fundamental operational purpose and activity of member organizations is grant making(For Full Membership Category)

Membership Categories, Eligibility, Benefits and Fees

a)   Full Membership - $1,000
This membership category is open to philanthropic organizations that are legally established or have a legal presence in East Africa and meet the following criteria or any other as may be determined from time to time by the Board of EAPN. These organizations may include corporate foundations, family foundations, community foundations and/or private foundations.
Eligibility Criteria
● Legally registered or recognized in any of the East African Community member states.
● A Non-profit making, non-political, non-aligned, and non-governmental organization.
● Verifiable operations in any of the East African Community member states.
● Full autonomy in their philanthropy activities and a track record in leveraging resources.
● An active grant maker for at least three years.
● Should commit to abide by the Association’s Code of Ethics.

● Use of the EAPN logo on organizational promotional material
● Allowed to use the designation “A member of the East Africa Philanthropy Network”

● Affiliation to international philanthropy organizations and support networks such as WINGS
● Access to regular research, publications, and resources on philanthropy
● Appear on featured pages on EAPN newsletter and website

● Opportunity to lead thematic groups/communities of practice
● Opportunity to serve on the East Africa Philanthropy Award (EAPA) jury (1 slot)

b)   Affiliate Membership- $750
This category is opened to any organization or entity whether for profit or non-profit that supports philanthropy work across the world. This may include donor-advised funds, grantmaking intermediaries, donor basket funds, companies, governmental agencies, internationals philanthropy organizations, philanthropy support networks or any other organization approved by the Board of EAPN.

 c)   Associate Membership-$400
This category of membership is open to non-grantmaking charitable organizations that engage in social development work and do not meet qualifications of a full member. They may include faith based organizations, community based organizations, civil society organizations, International Non-Governmental Organizations etc.
Eligibility Criteria:
● Legally registered or recognized in any of the East African Community member states
● Should have been active in the field of social development for at least two years
● Should have a verifiable focus on social development work in East Africa
● Should commit to abide by the Association’s Code of Ethics

●Opportunity to connect and network with donors and explore co-funding opportunities to support your work
